Scope 2
In scope 2 we look at emissions that are related to the energy (electricity, heating or steam) purchased for the sites. Depending on the available data, two different method for emissions calculation can be used. If one of the following data sources is available, then market-based method will be used:
- energy attribute certificate
- energy contracts
- supplier/ utility emission rates
- residual mix
If none of the above is available, NIVI will use the location based method, using grid-average emission factors.
What is included
For each site directly controlled by the legal entity, are included in scope 2:
- energy related to electricity consumption (MWh)
- energy related to district heating consumption (MWh)
- energy related to steam consumption (MWh)
- energy related to cooling water consumption (MWh)
What is not included
Where to get the data
- energy attribute certificate
- energy contracts
- supplier/ utility emission rates
- residual mix
