Purchased Energy and Fuel
In this category, the supply chain of the energy and fuel that was purchased is accounted for, which represents Category 3: Fuel- and Energy-Related Activities Not Included in Scope 1 or Scope 2 of Scope 3 in the GHG protocol. The quantity of the emissions shall therefore correspond to the values of scope 1 and 2. While scope 1 and 2 account for the emissions produced by the immediate use of fuel and energy, this category accounts for the emissions that arise in the extraction, production and transportation of the fuel and energy, acquired by the reporting company during the reporting year, before they can be used onsite.
What is included
Every emissions data associated with the extraction, production, and transportation of fuels and energy purchased or acquired by the reporting company during the reporting year, which are not already included in Scope 1 or Scope 2. Calculation of scope 3 Purchased Energy and Fuel emissions included: - emission type (electricity or fuel) - type of fuel (for fuel emissions) - quantity of fuel (mT) or electricity (MWh)
What is not included
Are not included: - direct emissions from fuel combustion in stationary equipment for the immediate use of fuel (scope 1) - emissions from fuel consumption from off-site equipment (scope 1) - direct emissions from electricity consumption (scope 2)
