What is ESG?
ESG is short for Environmental, Social and Governance and describes a company´s impacts, risks and opportunities in these areas as indicators for the overall sustainability of the company.
In an ESG report companies document what they have identified. There are numerous frameworks and standards for ESG reports, often sector specific. The overview over the three categories is based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)

Regulatory Compliance
While larger companies need to follow the European Corporate sustainability reporting directive from 2025, listed SMEs follow soon after, making it necessary for them to report according to the ESRS.

Customer Relations
Your customers likely face the same or even higher sustainability standards than you. They want to make sure to understand the impact and risks in their supply chain. Your sustainability report is an important selling point and a tool to convince them that you are a reliable supplier.

Investor Relations
An increasing focus of new investments is on ESG related topics. Investors want to see that companies are prepared for the future and understand their impacts and the risks and opportunities of different sustainability topics. A comprehensive and transparent ESG report is therefore essential to secure investments.

Lad NIVI guide dig!
